All About Achille....
We didn't just buy a new home and school. We inherited a new friend and perhaps even developed a taste for ecclesiastical music.
(Achille sits for an interview in what will become our new pasta room. He sold me his law office, which signaled his retirement from jurisprudence).
‘Why did you study law rather than music’, I ask.
‘Because in those days- when I was young- music wasn’t really an option, at least not in my family’.
‘And when did you develop a taste for jazz?’
‘In the womb, most likely. I’ve always loved it’, he says.
‘And when did you go to conservatory [academic musical training]?’
‘I started in my 50’s’, he says, beaming.
‘And when did you start to study philharmonic, musical composition, arranging and the music of the clergy?’
‘In my 50’s. I practiced law in the day time, started a jazz foundation to play around the region at night and 3 years ago I started writing my first entire Mass’.
‘Did you buy anything lavish with the money from the sales of the house’, I ask.
‘No. I went home and had leftover soup. I’m glad the structure went to someone I like and someone that really loves the building.
‘What will you do long term?’
‘I'm in talks with my brother to buy him out of his half of our ancestral home. As a boy I always wanted for it to be MY house. Now I guess it will’.
